Scholarships

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION PROCEDURES:

Victor Valley College uses an automated online application process for all scholarships available through the Victor Valley College Foundation and its partners.  This process is well received by student applicants and also worked well for most sponsors.

The system requires students to apply online via the financial aid page of the Victor Valley College website. The web address is http://www.vvc.edu/offices/financial-aid  or students can be referred to the homepage of the college site and select “financial aid” from the menu. 

The online application requests detailed information about the student’s academic history, educational goals and career plans.  It coordinates the collection of references through email and requires an essay in which students can share more information to help them connect further with a sponsor’s interests.

Only online applications are accepted.   No paper applications can be accommodated.  Sponsors who wish to refer applicants to the Victor Valley College scholarship program should direct them to visit the Victor Valley College website to apply online.

The deadline for applications is posted on the College Financial Aid Website, but usually March 15.

SCHOLARSHIP SELECTION PROCEDURES:

The system will match students’ online applications to prospective scholarship sponsors based on the criteria for each award.  Sponsors, who choose to be involved in the selection process, will have access to the system to review applications that match their individual scholarships and ranking tools to help them select their recipients.   Foundation staff will assist sponsors in accessing the system as needed to facilitate their participation in the selection process.

Sponsors will be able access applications beginning in April and must submit their selection by the end of May.


SCHOLARSHIP RECOGNITION AND AWARD:

Students will be notified by Victor Valley College of their selection for a scholarship award.  A ceremony to honor sponsors and recognize scholarship recipients is usually held June. 

Sponsors may choose to fund their scholarship directly to the student or via the Victor Valley College Foundation.  The Foundation will release funds to the College for posting to a student’s account only after they have been received from a sponsor.  Funds are returned to the Foundation if the student fails to enroll in the first term and subsequently returned to the sponsor if the student fails to enroll within the academic year.  To accommodate fall term expenses, payment of scholarship funds are required by July 1st.
