Frequently asked questions

A scholarship is a gift you don’t have to pay back, awarded to students for their hard work and academic achievements. It doesn’t affect your financial aid and is a way to help cover educational expenses.

Scholarships are available to any applicant without any special conditions, however some seek to support students with certain backgrounds, such as:

  • Financial need
  • Head of household with dependents
  • Returning to college after a substantial interruption
  • School or community involvement
  • Residents of specific cities in Ventura County
  • Athletes
  • Veterans
  • Relatives of current or former classified employees
  • Emancipated or current foster kids, or transitional living residents
  • Marginalized groups
  • ADA handicapped
  • Undocumented students

There are many scholarships available. We match you with the one that best fits your academic achievements, extracurriculars, and major.

Improve your chances by visiting the Writing Center to help prepare your essay and attending the VVC Foundation workshops that will be offered during the application period.

Yes, we offer scholarships specifically for students planning to transfer, and many scholarships are also transferable.

You can apply for scholarships through your Scholarship Manager under your MyVVC account, as pictured below. Our committee then reviews and awards them.

You will need:

  1. Your past academic information
  2. A personal essay
  3. Two letters of recommendation (from someone outside your household, examples include a teacher, coach , church leader, counselor,  etc.)

Please ensure that letters of recommendation are received by Friday, March 21, 2025 at 5:00 pm, for consideration with your scholarship application.

The final scholarship applications must be submitted by March 15, 2025 at 11:59pm.

You will be notified about your scholarship status via the scholarship portal from the end of May through the beginning of June.

Recipients are required to attend a mandatory, in-person scholarship ceremony on June 17, 2025 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.

Now our team is gearing up to thoroughly evaluate all submissions. Given the usual volume and the quality of the applications, please bear with us as this careful review will take some time. Our goal is to ensure a fair and comprehensive assessment for all.

For those of you who’ve submitted your applications, keep an eye out for an email or a phone call from us by the end of May and the beginning of June. That’s when we plan to reach out to the successful applicants.

We understand the anticipation that comes with waiting and appreciate your patience as we work through this process. Once again, thank you for your interest and for taking the time to apply. We wish you all the best and look forward to connecting with the scholarship recipients soon.

At the start of the semester, the scholarship amount will be credited to your bursar account, and any outstanding payments will be deducted.

The Bursar Office will verify your enrollment and make sure you meet all scholarship requirements after the drop deadline for the semester.
If there are any funds left over after applying your credit, a physical check will be mailed to your address on file.

"Thank you for this incredible gift!"

This scholarship changes so much for me. I am usually quite stressed on how to pay for my books and access codes. This year, I will be able to set aside this funding for my books. My donors are amazing!
