What are external scholarships?

External scholarships are awards offered by organizations not directly affiliated with Victor Valley College — community groups, private companies, religious organizations, and other independent sources.
There are many ways to find them, but it takes time to search and apply. Each scholarship has its own requirements and deadlines, so review the instructions carefully — the more applications you submit, the better your chances of additional funding.
Won an award? If you receive an external scholarship, you must report it to the VVC Foundation Office so it’s recorded as anticipated aid and coordinated with your financial aid package.

Beware of scholarship scams

Beware of companies that guarantee or promise scholarships. Do not send money to companies that make generous promises, charge a fee for you to receive aid, claim you are a “finalist” to request money, or ask for your credit card or bank account number. Legitimate scholarship resources are always free.

GOOD TO KNOW

External scholarship FAQs

At the start of the semester, the scholarship amount is credited to your bursar account and any outstanding payments are deducted. The Bursar Office verifies your enrollment and confirms you meet all scholarship requirements after the drop deadline. If any funds remain after applying your credit, a physical check is mailed to the address on file — so keep your address current in your student portal.

No. These resources are provided for informational purposes only. Inclusion in the listing does not mean Victor Valley College endorses them, and VVC cannot guarantee the accuracy or timeliness of the information — always verify scholarship details, especially deadlines, directly with the organization offering the award.

Never pay to use a scholarship search engine or application service. Legitimate scholarship resources are always free. Be cautious of anyone who guarantees an award, charges a fee to receive aid, or requests your credit card or bank account information.
